Fiona Fraser

    Overview

    Profile summary

I am an experienced occupational therapy educator with a commitment to advancing the profession through high-quality, student-centred education. Since graduating from Cardiff University—where my undergraduate research explored the role of problem-based learning in preparing students for clinical practice—I have gained broad clinical experience within mental health services.

In 2005, I joined the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) in London, where I undertook a national role supporting occupational therapy students across the UK. This opportunity enabled me to deliver lectures, presentations, and workshops that reflected the dynamic and evolving nature of the profession.

In 2012, I completed an MSc in Advanced Occupational Therapy, focusing my research on clinical leadership, and went on to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. Since joining the University of Plymouth, I have played a key role in shaping occupational therapy education through strategic leadership and curriculum innovation.

As Practice Placement Lead for six years, I worked in partnership with clinicians and educators across the South West to enhance student placement experiences. In 2020, I led the development and launch of England’s first integrated master’s programme in occupational therapy MOccTh (Hons). In 2023, I was appointed Academic Lead for Occupational Therapy, a role in which I lead a team of experienced educators delivering four pre-registration programmes and a growing postgraduate portfolio.

I am passionate about fostering inclusive, forward-thinking learning environments that empower occupational therapy students to thrive, develop their professional identity, and lead positive change within the occupational therapy profession.
