Fabio Favoretto is a Lecturer in Marine Biology and Scientific Diving at the University of Plymouth. His research sits at the interface of marine ecology, quantitative modelling, and conservation science, with a strong focus on applying data-driven approaches to inform sustainable management of coastal and marine ecosystems. He is particularly interested in the ecological and socio-economic dimensions of the blue economy, including the role of marine tourism in conservation and sustainable development.
Fabio’s work integrates numerical ecology, remote sensing, and spatial analysis to assess habitat dynamics, biodiversity patterns, and human impacts in marine environments. He has contributed to interdisciplinary research addressing marine protected areas, habitat mapping, and the development of indicators to support evidence-based decision-making.
Alongside his research, Fabio is actively involved in teaching and training in marine biology and scientific diving, with an emphasis on field-based learning, applied research skills, and the responsible use of diving as a scientific tool in marine research.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
