    Overview

    Profile summary

I am an academic GP with experience working in primary care, secondary care and academia. I completed my undergraduate medical qualification in Bangladesh in 1991 and moved to the UK in 1995. Before starting my clinical career, I worked as an interpreter/translator at Sheffield City Council for the Equality and Diversity Unit. I also worked as an interviewer for the Social and Community Planning Research (SCPR) and contributed to the British Crime Survey (1997) and Health of the Nation (1998) study. I also worked in Community Health Sheffield, leading a project empowering patients from black and ethnic minorities to manage simple health problems without coming to the GPs.
I worked in hospital medicine until 2002 and joined a GP training scheme in Sheffield. I passed my MRCP and MRCGP exams 2004 and maintained my interest in primary and secondary care. I conducted over 300 gastroscopies and was one of the first GPs in the country to undertake capsule endoscopy, which was published as an abstract at the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) annual conference in 2005. I served as the NHS Hardwick CCG lead for respiratory disease and neurology, worked as a GPSI in neurology, and undertook teaching sessions for the RCGP. I also worked as the RCGP Education Lead (White Rose Faculty), International Medical Adviser and a mentor.
I completed my MSc in diabetes (University of Leicester) and an MD (University of Sheffield). I was a senior clinical researcher at the University of Oxford (2021 to 2023) and a Primary Care Fellow at the University of Leicester (2016 to 2018).
