Dan Paolantonio is a moving image specialist and creative media artist whose work spans a wide range of practices and professional contexts, from drama, documentary and experimental film, through to international film festival curation, music video and advertising. Dan has worked in Higher Education as a film specialist in various contexts and at various Universities since 2001.
As the co-founder and co-director of the project Imperfect Cinema since 2013, (www.imperfectcinema.com), Dan has produced and exhibited film work across the UK, in Europe and in the USA and is currently engaged in a large-scale project which aims to explore film-making and social histories as a means of catalysing community creativity and identity.
Dan adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to his moving image practice and this is reflected in his work which utilises everything from antique and analogue film technologies through to the very latest in cutting edge digital cinema cameras, immersive technology and projection mapping.
The recent recipient of a large-scale film commission from The Box, Plymouth’s internationally-acclaimed museum and heritage centre, Dan’s current work explores and considers the relationship between community and the archive, and in particular seeks to foreground previously hidden voices and enable inter-cultural and inter-generational dialogues through creativity.
