Overview
Organisation profile
Our vibrant and diverse research community places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at enhancing health and well-being of the population, and developing a research skilled workforce.
Our researchers are from seven Allied Health disciplines and social care: Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, and Social Work. Actively collaborating with researchers across the Faculties of Health, Science and Engineering, and Arts we undertake research spanning from the laboratory to real-world settings.
Our research is organised into four main groups:
- Dietetics, Human Nutrition and Health Research
- Eye and Vision Research
- Participation in Everyday Life
- Rehabilitation Research
Community engagement lies at the core of our research. We foster strong ties with NHS and social enterprise partners, industry stakeholders, patients, and the public. Involving societal partners at every phase of the research process, from problem formulation to findings dissemination, is integral to our approach.
Our staff actively contribute to regional and national research priorities, with many participating in local and national advisory committees that shape health and social care policies.
State-of-the-art research laboratories, clinical facilities, and dedicated post-graduate areas foster a stimulating environment for both staff and students. We prioritise embedding research within the ethos of our School, providing all students, from undergraduate to post-graduate levels, with opportunities to engage in research through primary data collection, and learn from research informed teaching.
