Overview
Organisation profile
We are proud to share with you our exciting plans for the development of School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) and its facilities into the next decade. Discover more about our ongoing mission to meet the educational, research and industrial needs of communities and industries in the South West and further afield.
SECaM currently offers opportunities for our students to study for degrees within six key disciplines:
- civil and coastal engineering
- computing
- electrical, electronic and robotics engineering
- mathematical sciences
- mechanical and marine engineering
- navigation and maritime science.
Our researchers are working to create new knowledge and use innovations in technology to improve and safeguard societies locally and internationally. Within key research themes of Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE), Medical and Health Technology, Sustainable Development and beyond, expertise across Coastal Engineering, Materials and Structures, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Theoretical Physics and Data Science is brought together within our multidisciplinary research community.
Our existing facilities and the exciting development of our new Engineering and Design Facility are central to our plans for ongoing successes. SECaM hosts the Marine Building, which contains our world-class Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport (COAST) Laboratory and Navigation Suite. The school also operates the state-of-the-art Babbage building, another amazing building that is delivering our future success, by supporting engineering and design students as well as our leading research. SECaM further facilities include Autonomous and Robotic Systems, Wolfson Nanomaterials Laboratory, Cybersecurity range and our High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster.
