Overview
Organisation profile
Research in the School of Biomedical Sciences is underpinned by strong expertise in a broad range of traditional disciplines, including molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, immunology, virology, bioinformatics, proteomics, mitochondrial biology, physiology, nutrition and exercise. Driven by both curiosity and the general desire to improve human health, we collaborate widely to translate our basic discoveries. Such translation benefits not only from access to excellent laboratory facilities across the University, but also from tight links with colleagues in engineering, environmental science, medicine, dentistry dietetics, and the NHS. We have founded several spin-off companies that capitalise on the commercial potential of our research. Current projects include development of antimicrobials, vaccines, water quality tests, cancer diagnostics and anti-sarcopenic food supplements.
