Peninsula Dental School

Overview

Organisation profile

Research in the Dental School is carried out by multidisciplinary teams who collaborate widely within the University, Nationally and Internationally. Research is divided into two main themes:

  • The Oral Health Services, Workforce Development and Clinical Epidemiology Research Group is engaged in analysis and evaluation of strategies and interventions supporting the development and sustainability of the future dental team. We also conduct meta-research projects on evaluating and synthesising data to inform policy and practices. Interventions to improve oral health and reduce inequalities are also performed to identify ways to engage with hard-to-reach or disadvantaged communities.
  • The Regenerative Medicine, Tissue Engineering and Oral Microbiome Research Group carries out laboratory-based studies and clinical trials, utilising molecular biology, tissue culture, tissue engineering models, advanced imaging, metagenomics and physiological analysis. With these approaches the overall aim is to advance the mechanistic understanding of oral diseases with a particular focus on translational applications.
