Mental Health Research Group

Overview

Organisation profile

Our Mental Health Research Group (MHRG) brings together experts from different disciplines to better understand how mental health systems work in practice, in order to to strengthen our capability to design, deliver and lead research that produces actionable knowledge for service improvement.

Across five interconnected projects, the Group explores how to evaluate and improve the functioning of mental health systems. Rather than focusing only on individual treatment or services in isolation, it takes a whole-system approach by examining how systems – including universities, health services, community organisations and policy structures – operate and interact to support (or, sometimes, undermine) mental health.

The MHRG's overarching aim is to build sustainable, high-quality applied mental health research capacity in the South West of England, with a particular focus on understanding and addressing imbalance in mental health systems.
