Research group lead: Dr Kim Ward
The Environment and Society Research Group examines the complex relationships between human societies and environmental change, focusing on how social, cultural, and political dynamics shape environmental outcomes. The group brings together interdisciplinary perspectives to explore how communities perceive and respond to environmental challenges, the role of policy and governance in shaping environmental practices, and the ways cultural values influence interactions with nature. By integrating approaches from the social sciences and humanities, we aim to uncover the human dimensions of environmental transformation and identify pathways toward more equitable and sustainable futures.
The group is interested in questions of power, inequality, and participation in environmental decision-making, highlighting the voices and experiences of communities. Through collaborative projects, partnerships, and engagement with policymakers and stakeholders, we seek to generate impactful research that informs both academic debates and real-world solutions.
