Description

Creative Lunch Series: Merlin Evans (Art & Health)

Talk & Networking session.

Drawn to Listen: Illustration as Radical Research within the fields of Arts & Health.

Merlin Evans

In this talk, Medical Artist and Educator Merlin Evans offered a narrated, drawn journey - a map of her scientific illustration training with the Royal College of Surgeons, her subsequent disillusionment on viewing the canyons that divide healthcare professionals and patients, from artists, illustrators and creative practitioners, and a possible path through via the medium of ‘Illustration as Radical Research’.

Merlin will be discussing illustration along a multi-disciplinary line - a thread out of the minotaurs’ maze; an escape from an isolated single discipline focus of either Art OR Health. Instead, she will suggest a blueprint that strives to draw an open plan garden; a space where the hedges do not obstruct and divide shared community experiences of sickness and health, but where cross-pollination flourishes, fertilised by drawn practices that deeply look, listen and empower.
