BeSST’s mission is to promote high-quality Social and Behavioural Science Teaching and Learning for Medical Education to enhance the care of patients and populations. Our vision is to be a leading community of practice for Social and Behavioural Sciences medical educators within the UK and internationally with the following specific aims:

• To champion Social and Behavioural Sciences in Medical Education through
active engagement with individuals, organisations, and policy-making
bodies.
• To advance and influence the integration of Behavioural and Social Sciences
in Medical Education by leading and disseminating high-quality research
and scholarship that informs educational practice, shapes policy, and guides
national and institutional priority setting.
• To foster a vibrant and supportive community of practice facilitating
networking, career development and the exchange of expert knowledge,
experience and resources on effective teaching, learning, and assessment
strategies related to Social and Behavioural Sciences within Medical
Education.

Membership of BeSST currently represents 36 of the 46 UK medical schools, exceeds 300 and includes: psychology and Sociology educators and researchers, colleagues running similar organisations in other countries, patients, clinicians, and medical students. Currently we have four core working groups: Psychology, Sociology, students and assessment. Paid Patient and Public Engagement (PPE) and volunteer student representatives sit on our committee and are involved in the Psychology and Sociology working groups. BeSST activities include: an international biannual conference, monthly informal tea-time chats, regular recorded ‘show and tell’ sessions and online workshops.
